Scholar's armchair

Origin: Shanxi province

Period: 19th century

  • elm wood
  • 560mm wide  x 435mm deep x 1030mm high

This is a superb example of Ming style design having gracious proportions and striking linear beauty. There is soft round moulding throughout the frame and supporting members.  Under the seat are humpback stretchers with vertical supports along with a corresponding humpback stretcher under the footrest.

In addition to being alternative seating the chair stands out as an artful accent piece in today’s décor.
