Ming style linen cabinet

18th century

  • elm
  • 950mm wide x 520mm deep x 1785mm high

Fine example of the Ming linen cabinet. Understated elegance was a hallmark of furniture produced during the Ming dynasty (1368 C.E. - 1644 C.E.). Such was its popularity that the design continued right through until modern times.

The cabinet tapers gently from a slightly wider base to the peak form top. This design reflects traditional Chinese building techniques that forms a very strong structure to withstand earthquakes.

The full length doors are another feature of classic Ming design.

Cabinets of this quality are very rare.
