Square stool with wraparound stretchers

Origin: Shandong province

19th century

  • elm wood
  • 470mm wide x 470mm deep x 495mm high

Single stool with a variation of the humpback stretcher. Instead of the stretcher inserting flush into the leg the timber is shaped around the leg hiding the tenon. The design is seen more often on stools with round legs. The stool has the same structural strength as square stools and many people prefer the round design.
