Square walnut stools

Origin: Shanxi province

Early 19th century

  • walnut
  • 430mm wide x 430mm deep x 500mm high

These are a superb and rare example of Ming style furniture. A feature is the seat which is made from a single piece of timber compared to the usual panel and frame construction.

The stretchers are set closer to the feet making them useful as a footrest. The legs finish in classic horse-hoof feet design.
