Tapered grain measure

Early 20th century

  • elm wood
  • top: 160mm x 160mm base: 250mm x 250mm height: 210mm

Grain measures were used to provide a set amount of grain or oil. Often used by stores, some have a seal stating it was a correct authorised measure.

While their function is to hold a certain measure of grain the measures carry important symbolic meaning. The measure symbolises a full measure of justice mercy and virtue, which should be the right of all, irrespective of station.

These are very useful and attractive in the kitchen holding tall kitchen implements or around the home with a display of flowers.
