Artist Statement
My works in this exhibition vary in approach and medium. They include “Anemone” a traditional single copper plate etching with a colour rollup and “Bay of Fires” two zinc plate colour etching. Two mixed media works “Sublime Space” and “Sublime Chaos” incorporating watercolour washes, evocative etching shapes and encaustic wax. These two mixed media works bridge for my printmaking and painting practice.
This work references time in Tasmania exploring headlands, rock gullies and walking pristine white beaches. Most of all it acknowledges time sitting and drawing amongst the unique granite rocks and boulders of the Bay of Fires. These rocks are covered in rich red lichen, algae and fungus and held me spellbound.
