Gary Shinfield – Bay 2

Artist Statement

A theme of recent work has been moving closer to nature for inspiration and connection. Periods of immersion were spent researching and making work in Wollemi and Brisbane Water National Parks, NSW. In response to various places in the bush, paper was stained with natural pigments, blocks were carved on site, ink painting was used with relief printing methods, and images were printed on the ground with baren and wooden spoon. The goal was to capture an essence of place, and, to map encounters within and without.
