Artist Statement
Marta Romer started as a printmaker in the discipline of etching but embraces alternative, hybrid practices and enjoys working with both traditional and digital processes, each medium offering new creative possibilities.
In “Hot Summer” and “Another Hot Summer” she employs heightened, saturated pigment to convey the increasing intensity of summer, and the imagery references the iconic structures of the small towns and communities along the NSW south coast.
“At the Edge” is also informed by the patterns and rhythms of the artist’s coastal neighbourhood, and explores the boundary of shore and sea, the demarcation between the familiar and the strange, to evoke that moment of hesitation before venturing into the unknown.
