Ever Watchful by Petros Papoulis
I was immediately impressed by the volume and visual strength of the masonry that makes up the breakwall
at Wollongong Harbour. Silently, these concrete blocks and boulders look out to the ocean and protect the shoreline…..’Ever Watchful’.
This mixed media painting was a finalist in the 2020 Goulburn Art Award.

About the Artist
A Canberra-based artist and Queanbeyan teacher, Petros Papoulis creates mixed media works inspired by people, locations, and personal experiences.
His earlier works were assemblage pieces which combined found and made objects. Petros often incorporates the technique of Frottage, the technique of obtaining textural effects or images by taking a rubbing from a rough surface, such as wood or concrete, when creating his artworks. This forms the basis for the artwork. He currently uses a variety of media, with his primary processes being drawing and painting.
A finalist in the 2020 Goulburn Art Award, Petros has exhibited in selected group shows in N.S.W. and the A.C.T.
He has participated in virtual exhibitions and held solo exhibitions in Canberra and Queanbeyan.
His drawings, paintings and 3D artworks can be found in a number of private collections in Australia and in the public collection of the Goulburn Mulwaree Council.
